I'm a lifelong Alaskan who knows these landscapes like the back of my hand. Before photography became my full-time calling, I spent years as a firefighter and EMT in Palmer. That training taught me how to keep a level head at all times, read situations quickly, and handle whatever Alaska decides to dish out.

I. layer everything
Alaska weather can cycle through three seasons in one afternoon. Wear layers you can easily add or remove. Your outfit should work for sunshine, wind, and a sudden shift in temps.
II. pick a backup date
If your elopement involves a helicopter or bush plane, weather can ground you. Building a flex day into your trip means you won't miss your chance.
III. embrace the wild
The best Alaska elopements are the ones that roll with whatever happens. An unexpected moose in the background? A sudden fog bank that makes everything look like a movie? Those are the stories you'll tell forever.
IV. Hire local
A local Alaska elopement photographer knows the terrain, the weather, the vendors, and the hidden gems no one posts about online. It makes a genuine difference.

I recommend reaching out at least six to twelve months ahead of your date, especially for summer elopements. That said, I've booked elopements with three weeks' notice when the stars aligned. How far in advance should we book our Alaska Elopement photographer?
Absolutely. The permit process for places like Denali National Park, Kenai Fjords, and state recreation areas can be confusing if you've never done it before. I've handled Alaska elopement permits and I'll walk you through exactly what you need & make sure we have everything squared away well before your date.
Do you help with permits for elopements in National Parks and Public Lands?
Late May through early September offers the warmest temperatures and most accessible conditions. June and July give you the midnight sun and wildflowers everywhere. Late August into September brings fall colors into full force. Winter elopements are incredible too, just expect snow, cold, and a completely different kind of magic. (Sometimes we get Northern Lights!!) The best time to elope in Alaska really depends on what kind of experience you're after.
What is the best time of the year to elope in Alaska?
YES in all caps. I've photographed remote elopements in Alaska accessible only by helicopter, snowmachine, ATV, and bush plane. If you can dream it, I can find a way to get us there safely. Backcountry elopement photography is something I'm deeply experienced with. My rescue background means I'm prepared for the realities of remote terrain. We'll plan thoroughly and build backup options so nothing catches us off guard.
Do you travel to remote locations? How far will you go?
Alaska weather is famously unpredictable. Rain, wind, sudden temperature drops. I build flexible timelines with weather buffers and backup locations so we're never scrambling. Some of my favorite elopement photos have come from "bad" weather days. Clouds add drama. Mist adds atmosphere. The key is being prepared and staying adaptable. If conditions become genuinely unsafe, we pivot to Plan B. I won't put you in harm's way for a photo. That rescue training runs deep.
What happens if the weather is bad on our elopement day?
Yes! I shoot on analog 35 millimeter & 120 film as well as digital images. Both have their own strengths and I love each medium. If film is something you would like more heavily incorporated into your day, or even be the primary medium of your day.
